Tower Family Foundation and NATE Announce the 2018 Recipient of the Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship
University of Evansville Civil Engineering Scholarship Honors Jones’ Legacy as a Structural Engineer, Industry Icon
(Nashville, Tennessee) – The Tower Family Foundation and NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association (NATE) today jointly announced that Corey Gilreath, a junior civil engineering student from Evansville, Indiana, has been named as the 2018 recipient of the Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.
Gilreath already has significant real-world experience, having spent the past four years as a structural engineering intern working for a private architect where he is responsible for drafting and basic structural design. For the summer of 2018, he is planning to work as a bridge design intern in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Corey is a diligent and attentive student in all of his classes and the quality of his work is of the highest, professional degree,” stated Dr. James Allen, Associate Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Evansville. “Mr. Gilreath is at the top of his class academically but especially excels in courses related to the structural analysis and design sequence. We think Corey best embodies the spirit and respectful qualities of Ernie Jones as the recipient of his named memorial scholarship,” added Dr. Allen.
The official announcement was made at the NATE Awards Luncheon sponsored by SBA Communications during the annual NATE UNITE 2018 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Ernie was a structural engineer who worked in the broadcast tower industry for 30 years. During his career, Mr. Jones served as a Professional Engineer and President of Consolidated Engineering, Inc. and a Vice-President of Structural Engineering at Electronics Research, Inc. Ernie was also a participating member of the TR-14.7 Committee of the Telecommunications Industry Association and Electronics Industry Association since 1986 where he assisted with writing and approving the ANSI-TIA/EIA 222 standard which is the American National Standard for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures.
The Ernie Jones Memorial Civil Engineering Scholarship awards a $2,500 scholarship annually to a junior or senior level civil engineering student at the University of Evansville’s College of Engineering and Computer Science.
